GOING TOWARDS YOUR GREATEST FEARS TO BREAK FREE FROM THEM

Going towards your fears, in an inner exploration, can be enormously freeing and help those fears dissolve.
This exploration involves becoming conscious of exactly what it is you’re trying to avoid, and what it is you’re trying to avoid feeling. And explore, as an experiment with your own ego, what it would be like to no longer defend yourself from feeling those feelings.
It’s interesting to realise that it often does boil down to the ego not wanting to be, or to be seen as, something that is judged negatively. For example, a fear might be being judged as someone who isn’t able to deal with their feelings, or who isn’t fun enough, or who isn’t able to deal with financial responsibilities and manage their lives…, etc etc.
In my therapy practice, when a client is ready to do so, I often invite them to spend some time ‘standing in the fire of the Ego’ – that is, with my support and my guidance, to allow themselves to feel what it’s like, for the few minutes of that exercise, to no longer defend themselves from being, or being seen as, that which they fear, in the context of the topic they’re anxious about.

It is often not very comfortable at first, in terms of physical sensations, and to the Ego, it feels like loosing a great battle, often one we’ve been conditioned to fight our whole lives… And I invite my clients to let that battle be lost, to stop fighting and to watch the whole thing without judgment.
What emerges after a little while of that exercise, is a feeling of peace and freedom, and much greater possibilities opening up.
People I work with emerge from those inner journeys feeling safer, more tranquil and in control, and less attached to a particular outcome. Still free to aim for one, but not anxious or desperate about it.
